Since some of the fucked-up world changes that occurred in 2017, I have not been inspired to write anything. Until now. Black Panther premiered in the U.S. on February 16, 2018. I had been waiting for this film since I heard it was a possibility two years ago. When Prince T'Challa graced the screen in Marvel's Captain America, Civil War I was anticipating the possibility of a stand alone film for Black Panther. Now it is a reality. Although Wakanda is a fictional place the image of Black excellence is something to aspire to. Here are five reasons to not walk, but run to the movie theater to see this film.

1. The wonderfully talented cast proudly hails from many parts of the African diaspora. The Black Caribbean, Africa, Great Britain and the United States are represented well. Everyone had a stand-out performance.

2. The movie is just a great piece of art. Ryan Coogler, the young talented director from Oakland, did his thing in a big way. He made me proud. I am so glad that he was given an opportunity to spread his wings and soar to the highest heights. I look forward to his next endeavor, whatever it is.

3. Killmonger, played by Michael B. Jordan's message is as deep as I have ever seen in a film that does not preach at you. His quest to connect the African diaspora is monumental, despite his flaws. He brought tears to my eyes.

4. The costume design and cinematography is like none I have ever seen. The Dora Milaje's armor, and the Border Patrol's shields were innovative and embraced African culture in the most beautiful way. Chadwick Boseman looked so regal in his kingly attire. I could not get enough of the waterfall scenes as well as the ultimate Disney princess, Shuri's lab. The visuals were breathtakingly beautiful.

5. Wakanda may not exist physically but it is an idea of excellence,
cultural appreciation, and endless possibilities that we can all reach
for. Just the idea of it is enough. I want to see more of this magical land in future films.

I have seen the film three times so far. I will not stop seeing it until they take it out of the theaters. This phenomenon has made over a half a billion, worldwide, in it's first week. It strongly proves that when black people are given an equal footing, we can succeed in whatever we put our talents and mind to do. The myth that Black culture, particularly in film cannot sell, is pure bullshit.

Last week we loss the comedian, civil rights activist, and nutritionist, Dick Gregory. He was in his eighties and lived a meaningful life that touched millions. I remember as a child sneaking and reading my father's paperback copy of Gregory's provocative work "Nigger, an Autobiography. It was a straightforward reflective masterpiece that epitomized America. Until the end Gregory maintained the fire in his belly that governed over everything he shared with the masses. He didn't turn into one of those elderly men that lost their ability to challenge the establishment.

I say all this as I watch Jim Brown turn his back on Colin Kaepernick. Brown a man that stood with Ali and other great athletes during the civil rights movement belittling Kaepernick for taking a stand on his beliefs; a non-confrontational, personal stand that Colin took when he chose to sit or kneel during the national anthem. He committed no crime. Yet Brown who has a terrible history when it come to domestic abuse accuses Kaepernick of desecrating the flag as if it is like throwing a woman off a balcony. Google Eva Bohn-Chin. I never had Brown on a pedestal so his meetings with Mr. Apprentice and his choice to not see the value of non-violent activism doesn't change my view of him.

I am old enough to remember the stories of him repeatedly assaulting the women in his life. While we shouldn't be defined solely by our past, we cannot expect it to be erased. I have no idea if he apologized for his actions but I do know that he chose to judge another man solely based on his own outlook. In his world there is no room for diverse thinking or expression. Brown was afforded a second, third, and fourth chance and is still beloved by the football community; but he can't respect another man for standing for what he believes in. Ironically, Brown along with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Russell, in 1967, stood publicly with Muhammad Ali when he chose not to fight in the Vietnam War. Some saw that as treason, but during the height of his career he chose to take that stand any way. What happened to that guy? Where the hell did he go?

Longevity has its place, as Dr. King stated. I want and need to live a long life, but what I never want to do is become that old lady who thinks progress is unnecessary. I don't want to be that person who cannot see and value different points of view. So I choose to boycott the NFL. My Sundays will no longer be consumed by football pools, games, and thrash talking. I choose to celebrate Kaepernick's decision last season by being more productive. I choose to give the side-eye to the Jim Brown's of the world that have decided hypocrisy is a way of life and protesting is now somehow un-American.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1693871636891414321.post-71968745767470136142016-11-12T07:56:00.000-08:002016-11-12T07:56:08.325-08:00WE GON BE ALRIGHT BUT TIGHTEN UP YOUR WALLET

The presidential election is over and half the country is extremely distraught about the outcome. That is normal because their are distinctly several Americas. We are the United States of America in theory only. Election 2016 is now history and we have no choice but to move on. The Democrats fucked up. They did not listen to all the voices in their party. I am a native New Yorker that has witnessed Trump's arrogance and total disregard for others, most of my life. I know what we are getting. He will pretend to be presidential and thoughtful over the next few months but true character always shines through. As for Hillary she thought that Democratic nomination was her birthright. I remember the Clintons wanting President Obama to step aside and wait his turn. I ain't forgot. Hopefully this is the final chapter in politics for that couple. There is no denying I am disappointed by the election's outcome because just the sight of Rudy Giuliani makes me want to regurgitate; but I have to remember, "this too shall pass."

You may feel helpless or fearful about what will happen next. Fear is a good thing but don't be helpless; you can flex your power. There is a way. Do not spend your money frivolously over the next few months or years. I don't plan on spending one penny during the Thanksgiving weekend on unnecessary items, unless it is with a Black-owned small business. Tighten up your wallet. You will send a stronger message than those protesters that have taken to the streets after the election of Mr. Trump. Invest in yourself, your future and that of your family. Educate, save, and exhale. Me, I plan on traveling internationally over the next 4 years that will give me the education about the world I can't acquire confined within America's boundaries.

Obama's historic presidency lulled some of us into a sense of security about the future. Trump the reality star and his cronies will bring us completely back to reality. It is going to get down right ugly. Black people are strong and resilient. They can throw whatever come what may at us and we will rise. We will get through the next 4 years. As Kendrick Lamar so fittingly pronounced "We Gon Be Alright". That doesn't mean we should take our foot off the pedal. Stay Woke!

Trump Pence Flyer

First I will start off by saying the Republican party ain't shit and NBC is pathetic. I received this flyer from the New York Republican State Committee yesterday in my mail as NBC's infamous Access Hollywood tape is being played over and over again on the news. The salacious 2005 recording has garnered nonstop exposure as everyone listens in on Trump's secret "locker room banter" at the age of 59 or 60 with the annoying wannabe-pimp, Billy Bush. The Republicans are outraged that The Donald would talk about women in such a vulgar manner. The standout comment being on the tape "grab 'em by the pussy," has them acting like they have only the word pussy used to describe an actual cat. Meanwhile, the network that aired Trump's "Apprentice,"wants us to believe they miraculously found that, more than a decade old, tape a few days ago.

I am not naive and I know that some men/boys may explicitly talk about degrading women when they are out of earshot; but Trump is vying for one of the most powerful positions in the world, POTUS. The man is a narcissistic bigot who is completely full of shit. So nothing this bully says amazes or shocks me. Growing up in New York, I spent years seeing all his antics at nauseum Trust me he has been an egotistical maniac for a long, long, long time. Just go to Youtube and pull up years and years of his appearances on the Howard Stern show.

What I find outrageous is how suddenly members of the Republican Party want to distance themselves from him because he made some vulgar remarks about a Caucasian woman more than a decade ago. I am not condoning his misogynist language; but when the man recently labeled Mexicans as rapists, that was cool. It was fine that he wanted to build a wall on the Mexican border to divide land that originally belonged to the indigenous people. After he kept alive the birther conspiracy claiming, President Obama was not American, that was just Trump being Trump. It was okay when he insulted the Muslim parents of a veteran that gave his life for this country. Let's not even go into his 'Make America Great Again', bullshit slogan. That gives me Jim Crow nightmares.

It is ironic that less than a month from Election Day "pussy" is what it took to let some people know that Donald Trump is unfit to be the President of the United States. His boorish remarks about how he views women is what now has him in hot water with his political party. Yes his words reflect misogyny and rape culture and should not be celebrated; but he was in what he thought was a private conversation. On the other hand he has been proudly screamng his racist and xenophobic rhethoric to anyone that will listen. The hippocrites who now want to renounce him were okay with their children growing up in a world where people are solely judged by: the color of their skin, choice of religion, or ethnic background. If an eleven-year-old misoygynistic recording is what it takes to collapse a racist agenda, so be it. America, even with all its flaws, deserves better than a charlatan at the helm. He and his hateful followers must be defeated by any means necessary. Robert Deniro says it best.
You won't hear those words during Whitney Houston's historic rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. These words have been edited out but they capture the essence of the United States national anthem. Francis Scott Key the author of the Star Spangled Banner was a racist. He was a slave owner and as an attorney he prosecuted abolitionist. Yet all across the United States Black Americans stand for the national anthem some with our hand on our heart and some without; oblivious to the origins of that song.

Blacks are the most patriotic Americans you will ever find. We fought in every war defending the United States although back home we were second class citizens. We demanded our civil rights and made this country a better place for all its people. While others identify as Italian, Irish, or English, we are 100% American. We look to no other country but the one beneath our feet. We bleed red, white and blue even though some of our fellow Americans disregard our rights as citizens.
Thank you because by sitting you stood up for the disenfranchised and those who have no voice. Thank you for your disgust of law enforcement slaughtering unarmed Black Americans without any retribution or an apologetic explanation. Thank you Colin Kaepernick for being aware that the struggle is far from over and that silence can speak louder than any anthem. Thank you Colin for staying woke.

The greatest boxer and athlete that America has ever known made his transition to the other side on June 3, 2016. Muhammad Ali was a charismatic, beautiful, defiant icon that graced the world with his presence. He was not just a sportsman but an international figure that shook the world to its very core. This strong powerful black man was unapologetic about his proclamation that he was "The Greatest". "It is not bragging if you can back it up", he boasts. And yes he backed up every bit of his braggadocios exclamations.

I was born after he demolished the former heavy weight champion Sonny Liston. That iconic picture of Ali triumphantly standing over the crumpled Liston is my only memory of it. His heroic stand against the Vietnam War and his call for the civil rights of all people was etched in the history books when I became aware of him. I do remember as a little brown girl in Brooklyn waiting to see the Thrilla in Manila; Ali and Frazier's anticipated boxing match in the Philippines. Their was no Internet, social media, or cable providers. The world literally stopped and gathered around the television for this battle of the two titans. Ali and Frazier did not disappoint; it was a fight for the ages.

Years later when Muhammad Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease it was unimaginable at first to see his melodic voice silenced and the deterioration of the perfect physical specimen he had personified. You could still see his unrelenting spirit and courage had prevailed. The disease may have ravaged him physically but he was still a strong, kind and charitable man. The world will never again see a man, an American, a radical and a legend like this again. We loss a good one but his inspirational life will never ever be forgotten.
I am all for boycotts to a make a stand against a social, economic, or political injustice. The boycotts and sit-ins of the Civil Rights Movement are perfect examples of making significant change by agitating the powers that be. Those actions were for life or death issues. Boycotting the Oscars is not.

1. Chris Rock is hosting. He was hired way before Mrs. Pinkett-Smith decided her husband was shaded by not receiving a nomination for the concussion film. I will not pass up a chance to see the brilliant and prophetic Chris Rock on stage.

2. Hollywood. The movie industry is the problem for the lack of diversity in Hollywood not the Oscars, You can't blame the child for failing if the teachers did not provide him with the knowledge required. Those who feel Hollywood has left them out have to make there own way. People of East Indian descent did not wait for white Hollywood to capture them in film. They created their beloved Bollywood. The Nigerians have done the same with Nollywood. Check out www.irokotv.com and you will find a plethora of African movies. You have to make your own way in this world and not wait for others to validate your existence.

3. Will Smith. His not being nominated and a loving wife is what escalated the boycott. I didn't see Concussion so it would be unfair for me to critique his performance. I have seen several of his other movies and he is undeniably a charming and likable actor who makes a fine action hero; but Oscar-worthy performance has never popped in my head when watching his movies. To be honest, until the not yet released Suicide Squad, I haven't had much interest in his film choices lately. So like the original Aunt Viv his absence is not going to make me miss the Oscars.

I will probably tune in and after all my beloved Walking Dead is on tonight. If you are looking for some diversity that is the way to go.
The passing of David Bowie last Sunday saddens me. It is as if a light that illuminated the universe has dimmed. I can't say I am a mega fan who owns every Bowie album or that I even got to see him live and in concert. Despite that his music was part of the soundtrack of my youth. His passing like Michael Jackson's makes me nostalgic for the way things were. I am after all an eighties kid who grew up watching Bowie on MTV; the station that originally wouldn't play black artists but was fine playing the rock artists that were influenced by black music.

The Blues gave birth to a child and it was called Rock "n" Roll. Bowie knew that and he respected those artists that paved the way for him. One of my favorite songs of his is the rhythmic masterpiece, "Let's Dance". I remember hearing it on R&B friendly radio stations WBLS and WKTU in New York city right along with a play list that included Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. It was quite fitting, soul fans would have been familiar with his sound; earlier he was not afraid to make an appearance on Soul Train to share his soulful sounds of "Fame" with an audience he knew would appreciate it.

Some musicians make good music and it plays on the radio for a little awhile and then they disappear. Then there are others who become icons that influence generations through art and their very existence. Bowie was a chameleon who lived his life on his own terms. He famously stated, "I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring.” I am pretty sure Heaven just got a bit more exciting.

Yesterday Charlie Sheen revealed on NBC's"Today Show" that he was diagnosed with HIV about four years ago. Sheen was never secretive about his risque dalliances with prostitutes and porn actresses. He gained quite a reputation as a wild party man who indulged in life's excesses. Despite his sexual appetite and personal choices it was still unsettling to hear. A virus that can lead to a premature death is enough to make you uneasy.

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus first made headlines in the eighties. Initially it appeared as a "gay man's" disease. We found out that HIV could lead to AIDS which compromised a person's immune system leaving them vulnerable to opportunistic illnesses such as cancer. I grew up in New York where an AIDS epidemic erupted and decimated certain groups. The fear of this monster caused many to speculate about how it could be transmitted. We knew that sex and needles could pass the disease from one person to another. Some believed it could also be caught from kissing, toilet seats, breathing and maybe even a hug.

I remember sitting in a health class at St. John's University and being told that the 4 H's were mostly susceptible to AIDS; Homosexuals, Heroin/Intravenous drug users, Hemophiliacs and Haitians. That news eventually made it to the streets and caused a panic. Haitians took offense to being singled out and took to the streets. The images of the Brooklyn Bridge appearing to buckle under their marching feet is still vivid in my mind.

Today we do know that anyone can contract HIV through unprotected sex, the sharing of needles and blood transfusions. There are drugs available today that can allow those infected to live long lives. Magic Johnson is a prime example since he has lived with HIV for over 20 years now. HIV/AIDS is not the death sentence it was over 30 years ago but it is still a chronic crisis lurks within all our communities.

I love Zombie movies. The fast pace and eminent danger the characters face is exhilarating. There is something about an apocalypse that would probably reveal what a human being is truly capable of. Recently Black women have taken the forefront on the small screen when battling the undead. No characters represent a strong woman faced with fierce survival skills better than Michonne and Sasha from AMC's The Walking Dead and Warren from Z Nation on the SYFY network. These sisters have miraculously survived the Black Horror Curse and have lived to see not only another episode, but another season.

Michonne played by Dania Guiria on The Walking Dead is the baddest female or male you will ever see on the television screen. When she wields her dual katana swords you know whatever is at the end of those blades is about to say goodbye from this world. Sonequa Martin-Green plays Sasha the resilient stone-faced woman who will persevere by any means necessary. Over on the SYFY network Kelita Smith as Warren is the sexy take-control leader who can make putting a zombie down look effortless. I cannot remember a time when Black female characters were so kick-ass on the small screen. I hope it never ends.

Marcy Borders emerged from the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, covered in dust. She was a 28 year-old woman that had recently started a new job. She survived that tragic day but her life was forever marred by her experience like so many others. Many of us can remember precisely where we were the day thousands of people senselessly lost their precious lives. I remember the sense of despair I felt as I waited to hear if my cousin who worked in the Twin Towers was okay. She had gotten to work late and fortunately never entered the buildings, but she lost co-workers. Ms. Borders famous image, captured by photographer Stan Honda, was seen around the world and garnered her the name, "Dust Lady". Unfortunately Ms. Borders succumbed to stomach cancer on August 24th of this year at the tender age of 42.

When people survive tragedies we tend to romanticize it. How glorious that they made it out of dire circumstances with their lives. Our perceptions are so influenced by the Hollywood happy ending that we choose to ignore the traumatic aftermath of a near death experience. Post Traumatic Syndrome does not only affect the soldiers who survived the battlefield. It is something that everyone who survives a tragedy or experiences a traumatic event, can relate to. Ms. Borders' life after the Twin Towers fell was not a "happily ever after". She became depressed and began smoking crack, no doubt to numb the pain. Prior to passing on to the next life, she was unemployed and lacked proper health insurance as she battled the Big "C". Many of those that emerged from those buildings have died due to illnesses that some believe were brought on by the toxins that inhabited the Towers. I believe the stress of surviving such a horrendous event can eat away at someone and as the mind struggles with it, the body itself begins its own battle.

As we prepare to mourn the lives lost on 9/11, we must remember those who survived and are continuously struggling with what happened 13 years ago. Their lives were shattered and they are still piecing them together the best that they can.

Rachel Dolezal, the president of the Spokane NAACP chapter, decided years ago she would assume the life of a black woman. What led her to that is unclear at the moment. Was it her divorce from a black man or did it start when her parents adopted black children? Could it be her time at Howard University or did she have a spiritual transformation after seeing a Beyonce concert? My heart says she has personality disorder but I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV.

I was flabbergasted when I first heard this story. I love being a black woman but what white woman in her right mind would want to be one in such a racist world? Dealing with a misogynistic society just wasn't enough of a challenge? My mind is swirling with all the times white women decided, " I could be a sister". This story definitely deserves to be adapted to film. So who would be cast to play Ms. Dolezal?

1. Maybe Iggy Azalea could star in the movie, she is already doing a minstrel act disguised as a rapper. I heard her music career is on the decline. She could now transition into acting and play Ms. Dolezal in the Lifetime movie. She would have to work on her accent; not the Australian one but that fake "urban" one she pollutes the airwaves with.

2. Or better yet perhaps Angelina Jolie she already played a mixed woman in the docudrama, "A Mighty Heart". Jolie has one of Ms. Dolezal's hairstyles in that movie. She also adopted a daughter from Africa, so she has an inside perspective.

3. Fox News' beloved Stacey Dash would slay that role. With a little makeup she could do some work. It would be a stretch because it seems like she has an old southern white plantation woman trapped in her body. Dealing with unreality is her forte. I have confidence in her craft, after all she was practically a middle aged woman when she played a high school student in "Clueless".

4. Like Ali did in "The Greatest", Ms. Dolezal could play herself. She already has mastered the acting chops. Her legendary performance screams Oscar nominee. A little mid-western blond girl turns herself into a black woman who heads a NAACP chapter in a city where 1.9 % of the population is black. You couldn't make this stuff up. She could be the stylist as well. Those intricate natural hair styles is what duped everyone. Standing Ovation!
We do not live in a monolithic world. Instead we exist in a realm of mosaic skin colors from the darkest ebony hue to the palest ivory colored skin. The world is what it is and each and everyone of us has a preference of what we are attracted to. My preference is a man that is physically attractive and emotionally generous; stingy men need not apply.

These polls are probably flawed by the sheer limitation of the presumed demographic it surveyed. Of course, the sisters end up at the bottom of what is considered a desirable woman; and as usual our counterparts joining us in the basement of fire and desire, are Asian men. Maybe Asian men and Black women should consider flipping the script and hooking up with one another more often. Just a thought. What flabbergasted me was that White women tumbled to third place. What the hell is going on when Becky is not at the top of the dating food chain?

Race was created by the European man. Before he decided to divide and conquer the entire world and claim it as his own, people were tribal. The European man's obsession with race has infiltrated every society in the Universe, but there is still hope and it exists within each and everyone of us. The right to choose who you love without any judgement should prevail. Let's add another amendment to the dating constitution: the right to be secure in your choice of who you decide to date without being judged by that individual's race and what society dictates. When we allow this amendment to be self evident all races in the world of dating will be equal. Amen.

I probably watch way too many police television shows. Law & Order and Cops have totally framed the way many view how a policeman should act. It is foolish to base your reality on anything you see on the tube, but I am guilty as charged. I assume that if a police officer pulls someone over for a busted tail light and the driver (with a passenger in the front seat) flees that he would call for back up. Leaving the passenger in the vehicle, then turning your back to him to pursue the fleeing driver on foot seems stupid. Then proceeding to gun down the driver like you are at target practice is outrageous. The fatal shooting of Walter Scott in that same scenario in North Carolina is tragic but unfortunately normal. In the television world the cop would wait for back-up. During his subsequent pursuit he would yell Stop Police and then tackle the assailant. Everyone leaves the scene alive.

I grew up in the NYC so I know that people of color have the possibility of losing there lives to a police officer quite easily. I know what they don't show on Cops. Sixty-six year old Eleanor Bumpurs always pops into my psyche when I think of police shootings. In 1984 somewhere in the Bronx she was being ordered evicted by the city but refused to open her door. The cops broke it down and shot and killed a mentally ill, elderly black woman who was already paranoid that someone was after her. She owed less than 100 dollars. They alleged she was carrying a knife. Unfortunately there is no video. As a kid I realized that if a old lady not armed with a pistol good be gunned down so could my black ass.

Was Walter Scott wise to flee the scene? No, but he didn't deserve to die like a runaway slave. Should unintelligent officers be allowed to police our streets? No, but these wannabe overseers are in police forces across the country. Thank God, for the young man that videotaped this. His brave recording exposed the policeman's false report. The most disgusting part of Walter Scott's killing, outside of his death, was the officer's fantastical claim that he feared for his life and that he administered CPR. The tape don't lie.

Americans and the media must visualize something to believe it. Witnesses, and the evidence does not matter; it is all about the video. I wish every officer could show restraint like the officer above. That white man walked away with his life.
Recently a couple of correction officers, in a relationship, were embarrassed by the discovery of their sexual escapades on the male officer's cell phone. At the Green Haven Correctional Facility COs are not allowed to bring cell phones into the prison. The officer forgot his phone in his jacket and it was confiscated. He informed an official of the photos. Well you know there are voyeuristic people who are driven by curiosity and cannot help but peer into a technological window. There also are those who regress back to the seventh grade when it comes to sex.

Now of course if you don't take sexual photos or videos on your phone, laptop, or tablet then you never have to worry about your intimate moments being revealed to others. How realistic is that? We have become creatures that record every moment of our lives and walk around with it in our pockets and purses. I believe it is healthy for a couple to add visualization to their sexual repertoire, but you have to be sensible about it. The old school way of doing things applies here. Invest in a Polaroid camera and keep the photos locked in a little inconspicuous safe that only you and your significant other have the combination to. A video camera, not connected to a cell phone or any other social media gadget, is a wonderful investment. A projector and a projector screen are also practical accessories to add to your video play.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to capture erotic moments with your lover. First you have to make sure you truly trust that person, and that takes time. Once you established mutual trust you can decide to record your sex life; just invest in some gadgets that are harder to fall into the hands of outsiders. We all have locks on our doors, access to alarm systems so we should have no problem safeguarding our most intimate moments?

I grew up in New York City, Brooklyn mostly, and I can remember when male strangers started talking to me on the street. I was about 12 years old. These were not boys hollering at me but grown men. Well it was the 80s and I was allowed to walk everywhere alone: to the library, corner store, and the arcade, etc.. Now New Yorkers learn early on not to talk to strangers. So I was initially thrown off by the unsolicited attention. Just like pregnancy, other females don't prepare you for it.

These gestures had sexual undertones; even at that tender age I could tell. It felt weird in the beginning and as my body matured I grew accustomed to it. Some would say a simple hello, while others commented on your body and the more intimidating ones followed you for blocks. I learned that when you ignored some, they would unleash a verbal wrath on you that could make Katt Williams blush. On some occasions a man would say something sincere or he would make you laugh, harassment is interpretation, I guess.

Your attire does not matter. You could be drowning in a huge winter coat or cooling off in denim shorts and the attention came your way. Of course the more sexily dressed you were perceived, the more intense were the gestures. Sometimes you had a bad day, and you just left work and were headed to the A train. You put your headphones on to block out the world, but not too loud because this is the Big Apple and you better be aware of your surroundings. That is when you hear it, "Smile,". "You too pretty to not be smiling." You ignore it and just want to get home. Of course he takes it personal and "Bitch" rolls off his tongue as if it was the first word he uttered as a baby. That is an extreme scenario, but not uncommon. My sister said the late Biggie Smalls, cussed her out for not responding to one of his boys as she was walking the streets of downtown Manhattan.

Women in large US cities, overseas, and probably damn near everywhere can possibly relate to this video. My girlfriend told me the men in Italy are quite aggressive on the streets. I know for a fact the men in the Caribbean are no slouches either. Over at clutchmagonline and article is stating that the white men in the street harassment video above were edited out. This video was shot over 10 hours on the busy streets of the NYC. She could have came in contact with thousands of people. The majority appear to be civil. If they truly edited out the white men to target non-whites then this entire video is tainted.

Now when I initially described the men that engaged with me, I never attached race to it. I have been greeted by black, white, and Hispanic men. Maybe you get the worse from your own, but the most crude things have come out of Black men's mouths. I see nothing wrong with saying hello, or how are you doing, maybe even a simple compliment. It is the immature banter that seems played out and ridiculous.

Yesterday a man, he was white, said hello in a kind gesture outside of Publix grocery store. I returned the gesture. It did not feel like harassment. A women knows when she is being harassed or annoyed. I currently live in Central Florida, so walking down the street is not as common, we live in our cars. So a brief engagement is usually just that. There comes a time when a woman reaches a certain age and that attention comes to an end. Will I miss it, probably not. What I especially won't miss is the insistence of someone telling me to smile. I am not a robot and will smile when I see fit. If you want to engage, a simple hello will suffice.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1693871636891414321.post-91253718309399710402014-10-05T13:32:00.000-07:002014-10-05T13:32:39.712-07:00SERENA WILLIAMS IS PHENOMONAL

The NFL previously suspended him for two games for the infamous video of him dragging his then fiancee, knocked out cold, out of the elevator. One month later this young lady decides to marry this man who, as now revealed, punched her the hell out like he was brawling with Mike Tyson. I don't know what led up to that heinous act. What I do know is she needs to get the hell out of that situation.

Ray Rice and other men like him do not belong in relationships until they learn how to control their violent behavior. Did she hit him prior to that or say something that pissed him off? I haven't a clue. What I do know is their foundation is quicksand and it will sink rather quickly. The League gave him a meek slap on a wrist and now the Ravens have decided to give him the boot. His wife should take note. If Baltimore can kick him the hell out, guess what so should she. Domestic Violence is rampant in all societies. It does not discriminate based on race, gender or socioeconomic status. Men hit women. Women hit men. Men hit men and Women hit women. Everybody needs to just keep their hands to themselves. Whatever emotional scars or baggage you are bringing to a relationship do not channel it into a violent situation; get help. If you are a victim of domestic violence; get help. The National Domestic Violence Hotline (www.thehotline.org) @ 1-800-799-7233 can connect you to the resources you need to live a life free of violence.

No one, male or female; rich or poor; gay or straight; should remain in a relationship that involves physical and/or emotional abuse. Run and get the hell out as fast as you can!
I love lingerie. It is one of my guilty pleasures. There is something about putting on a pretty bra set that empowers you. So I am excited about Nubian Skin, a new commerce site, that will be launching a lingerie line that truly addresses what nude means to women of color. For years, I have lamented about finding nude underwear that truly compliments the different shades of black women and our sisters of color. I have searched for a pretty brown bra and pantie only to be disappointed. The few brown bras I find are boring and too matronly for my taste. I stopped wearing stockings because I could never find a shade that flattered my skin tone.

In October Nubian Skin plans to launch this groundbreaking business. The bra sizes will range from 30B to 36E. I am excited and welcome the diversity in the lingerie world. I cross my fingers and hope the best for this new company.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1693871636891414321.post-83495504816158088612014-08-27T22:17:00.001-07:002014-08-27T22:17:18.387-07:00WHY I AM BOYCOTTING BET

Your natural hair and your soft skin, and your big ass in that sundress (ooh!) Good God, what you doing that walk for? - Poetic Justice (Kendrick Lamar)

When I first heard those lyrics I got goose bumps. Wearing my natty hair has been liberating. I restarted my natural hair journey almost 20 years ago. I decided to do away with straightening my locks and I have never looked back. Those moments of hot combs scorching my ears and my scalp being assaulted by lye are distant memories, and I shall never relive it.

I am not opposed to perms, straighteners or weaves. Do whatever makes you feel beautiful. What I am against is someone judging another for choosing a path that might be different than the majority. If I want to let my natty locks blow in the win; it is my prerogative. BET or no one else can kill my joy.

I am probably not part of BET's target audience. I left my teen years and early twenties behind a long time ago. So my boycotting of the cable network is not an issue for them. I do have a son and while he is currently in my home he wont be watching BET either. I have TV One to indulge in, so it really is not a loss. Honestly I stopped watching that channel consistently a long time ago. Most of the time I could barely last 10 minutes watching their programming. I do enjoy watching the award show every summer but I will have to live without that.

What's my motivation to abandon the once black owned basic cable network? The recent comments made by Chris Brown's concubine about Blue Ivy's hair was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Little black girls have enough self image issues to contend with. Attacking a little girl's natural hair is irresponsible and pathetic.

How absurd that wearing your hair in your natural state is not normal. Only Black women are subjected to believing they must chemically alter the natural texture of their hair to fit in. I shed that burden with no regrets. It disturbs me to see people, passing as adults, ridicule a beautiful little black girl for wearing her gorgeous natural locks. We can't blame white people for this ignorance. Anyone who objects to or is offended by an individual who has decided to let their natural go free is an asshole. I have zero tolerance for anyone that believes it is okay to make fun of a precious child for being herself. Fuck them and fuck BET.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1693871636891414321.post-76406596948844103542014-06-21T08:47:00.000-07:002014-06-21T08:47:19.052-07:00WOMEN ARE VISUAL CREATURES

The Stockton Police Department had a weapons bust and decided to post it on their Facebook page. What they did not anticipate is all the attention one of their suspects, Jeremy Meeks would get. His photo garnered over 38,000 likes. Apparently the world now knows that women do like eye candy. Yes Mr. Meeks is handsome and I suppose it is his beautiful blue eyes and chiseled features that are getting all the attention. The fact that he is a 30 year old convicted felon and gang member has not made him any less attractive to some. I am sure for most, it is all fantasy. Another young suspect, Terry Bailey, arrested that same day is no slouch in the looks department either. I guess his brown eyes did not appeal to the masses.
The misconception is that women are exclusively attracted to things like money, status, or personality. Men are visual creatures and mostly respond to a round booty, nice breasts and a smile. After all that is what drives the pornography industry. I do know that women are not immune to a man's good looks. You may not want to invite Mr. Meeks over for dinner for fear he will in the least rob you. But you are not opposed to fantasizing about him tonight with your battery operated boyfriend. It really shouldn't be news that women are drawn to a handsome face wrapped in a bad boy image.

Magic Mike the male stripper film set in Tampa, Florida was a surprise hit that made over 167 million dollars at the worldwide box office. The movie had a weak plot and even weaker dancing, with the exception of Channing Tatum's sultry moves. I watched the movie with a room full of excited females who left that theater satisfied. The women were excited to see extraordinarily attractive men barely clothed and grinding on stage. There was no knight in shining armor or prince with a castle; just unadulterated sex appeal. So you can admire the looks of a felon from afar and just keep it moving. Looking but not touching never hurt anyone.
The Autobiography of Malcolm X written by Alex Haley was a work of art that changed my life in the most profound way. I can still remember how exhilarated I felt after I read the final word. I was a sophomore in college who had never taken a literary journey like that before. Malcolm X's life exemplified black love at the highest level. His words made me realize redemption is possible and that you can overcome adversity with sheer will. Today is the 89th anniversary of Malcolm Shabazz's glorious birth. Although he was on this Earth for a brief time the impact he had on the world has lasted for generations.

The dialogue between Donald Sterling and his ex concubine was one of the most fascinating conversations about race that I have heard in quite some time. It reminded me of the revelation that the late South Carolina politician and infamous segregationist, Strom Thurmond, secretly fathered a child with a black teenager who worked in his family's household. The sexual dynamic that is intertwined with social racism can be confusing, hypocritical, and sometimes complex.

Racism is more than saying the word Nigger. Not once did Sterling say the word nigger, coon, or thug, but his words are the depiction of an old man who has benefited from white privilege as he drowns in his obsession with his whiteness.

Yes Sterling's ignorant views of race are obvious but his sexist views are equally blatant as evident below in his own words:

Donald: Ya it bothers me a lot that you want to promo... broadcast that you are
associating with black people. Do you have to?

Mistress: You associate with black people.

Donald: I am not you and you are not me. You are supposed to be a delicate white or a
delicate Latina girl.

Obviously this man feels that this woman does not have the right to associate with whom he doesn't seem fit, but he still can. Ironically she may even be part black which confuses this whole fiasco. He can profit off of blacks, accept a NAACP Lifetime Achievement Award, and take as many photos with them as he pleases. The minute this colored mistress gets out of pocket, all hell breaks loose.

The power of the "pussy" prevails. This young lady is being sued by the Sterling family for embezzling over a million dollars from the old geezer. She put it on him, he showered her with gifts, and then things went sour. The current longest owner of a NBA team now risks being removed from what I am sure is a treasured position; because he wanted some young pussy. The damage has been done. She struck back. It doesn't matter if she is a gold digger who targets wealthy men; he should have been intelligent enough not to fall for it. His racial views are skewed but he has no problem laying with a non-white woman. Donald Sterling shines a light on the racist, sexist and ignorant views that still prevail without saying the word bitch or nigger.

Now I know that some women have gained enormous fame from starring in leaked porn videos, but all of those women have been white. Karrin Steffans, aka Superhead, did put her stamp on the literary world with Confessions of a Video Vixen but her pornography career did not land her on the cover of Vogue magazine. The sister in Love and Hip Hop has obviously marketed her sex tape as a calculated career move. We all make choices on a daily basis that may work for or against us. She is not running for public office or seeking a job at a Catholic school;so what is the harm? Twenty or even ten years ago I would have said, "it will die down". That is no longer true, access to information is readily available; in a matter of seconds this video will be accessible to just about everyone. I heard that she is a mother and I wonder how making this risque video will affect her child. Not in a good or positive way I am sure. I haven't decided to stop watching porn because of Love and Hip Hop but it hasn't dissuaded me from giving it up. Top 3 reasons I am giving up porn.

3. Most men are not hung like that. Professional pornography creates an unrealistic view of sex that I have grown tired of. Whether it is soft or hardcore I can do without the acrobatic positions and fake orgasms. Sure I could watch amateur porn if I want reality, but film is all about escape for me. Watching a dude that looks like my neighbor humping a woman that resembles the cashier at the supermarket, can get old.

2. Guilt. Many of the people, women in particular, that get involved in pornography are broken. I think about Laurence Fishburne's daughter Montana, and the little sister on Family Matters that disappeared after a few seasons. They are young vulnerable women who regretted screwing people on film and have suffered the repercussions.

1. Seems like I should be fucking instead of watching others do it. Using it as foreplay with another may work but I think using my imagination and creativity is more advantageous. Sure you can get pick up some ideas and new tricks to practice. I do believe you can fly on your own if you are with someone that really turns you on; the possibilities should be endless. Sex can get monotonous with a significant other but there other ways to spice things up. I love reading erotica and will continue to indulge in that. A book allows your imagination to fly and does not restrict your thoughts like film can.

You can never say never but for now I will refrain from pornography and let my own imagination do the work. Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1693871636891414321.post-63229941470930068702014-04-01T19:59:00.001-07:002014-04-01T19:59:49.222-07:00PERCEPTION IS EVERYTHING

The young lady featured in the video above has filed a lawsuit against 2 Chainz for allowing this to air. She does look a bit thirsty but I really don't know if she is starstruck, a groupie, or seeking her 15 minutes. It might be all three. She looks lovely and seems intelligent especially as she calls out her instagram. Now in 2 Chainz's defense he may have had some run-ins with girls backstage and decided he was going to be proactive and document everything. Prevention is the best protection. I can also look at him as being a dick; because the young lady may just be a fan and lord knows he is lucky he has them. He obviously should tighten up his security if he wants to keep certain people out. I am also certain his buddy was the one who let her in and decided to play dumb.

Social media has completely changed how we do things. It is a wonderful way to stay in touch with family, friends and the world. I embrace social media and what it has to offer. Yet there are some things I have not been able to cosign with such as: online dating and posting every single bit of your life and every thought on sites like Twitter or Facebook. The minute this woman realized she was being videotaped on a blog she should have hightailed it out of there. The man had her do a twirl like she was up for bid at an auction. Later on the embarrassment of being putting on display must have got to her if she felt the need to hire an attorney. Does she have a case? Only time will tell. Her desire to be seen on a blog and to get her instagram out there, clouded her judgment. I guess the need to be seen is stronger than pride.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
